An officer who made abusive and misogynistic comments to female colleagues has been immediately dismissed following an investigation by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.
PC Terrence Ellis, based in the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Command, faced a four-day gross misconduct hearing to answer allegations that he had breached standards of professional behaviour with respect to authority, respect, and courtesy.
In September 2022, PC Ellis used threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour against a female colleague. In addition, he made sexist and misogynistic comments towards another female colleague.
PC Ellis was suspended following the allegations.
Having considered all the evidence, the panel dismissed him without notice at the conclusion of the hearing on Friday, 19 July.
Chief Superintendent Andy Burton, in charge of policing the command, said, “PC Ellis’s disgusting behaviour and language has led to his dismissal, a decision I fully support and welcome. This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable in the organisation and I hope this outcome demonstrates how we are rooting out those who do not demonstrate the standards we demand from our officers.
“I would like to recognise the courage and professionalism of the officers who challenged this behaviour.”
Following the hearing, PC Ellis will now be placed on the list of people on the barred list held by the College of Policing. Those appearing on the list cannot be employed by police, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
