The AFP has disrupted a NSW-based organised crime syndicate allegedly involved in the manufacture, importation and supply of methamphetamine, as well as the trafficking of cocaine, in
Australia.
The AFP launched an investigation, codenamed Operation Kraken-Teth, into the criminal syndicate in March 2024, which resulted in the arrest of four men, aged 23, 29, 30 and 26, from western
Sydney.
It will be alleged the four men used the encrypted communications device to engage in criminal activities. Using intelligence obtained from Operation Kraken, AFP officers executed a search warrant at a Mount Druitt house on 17 May 2024 and located a clandestine laboratory allegedly used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Officers located and seized 1.5kg of pseudoephedrine and 500g of methamphetamine. A Silverdale man, 23, was arrested at the address and charged with two counts of supplying prohibited drugs which is not less than the commercial quantity, contrary to section 25(2) of the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act 1985 (NSW).
The maximum penalty for this offence is 20 years’ imprisonment.
