A man who distributed fentanyl in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was sentenced today to more than eight years in federal prison.
Colby Joseph Manley, age 26, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received the prison term after a January 8, 2024, guilty plea to four counts of distribution and aiding and abetting the distribution of a controlled substance and two counts of distribution of a controlled substance.
Evidence at the plea and sentencing hearings showed that, in April 2022, Manley distributed an amount of fentanyl to another person, which caused the person to suffer an overdose and die.
Following the overdose, on six separate occasions between December 2022 and February 2023, undercover law enforcement officers purchased pills containing fentanyl from Manley.
Manley was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. Manley was sentenced to 98 months’ imprisonment. He must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
There is no parole in the federal system.
Manley is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
